The difference that matters is distribution. A whirlybird evacuates a cone of air around one point, so a long attic often needs several units to reach every rafter bay. A ridge vent exhausts along the entire peak, sweeping the underside of the deck end to end. On a house with a forty-foot ridge, that even sweep usually beats two isolated turbines, provided the intake side is doing its job.
Which Vent Handles Santa Ana Winds Better?
Santa Ana events are where opinions harden. Turbines have moving parts, and sustained gusts funneling out of the canyons are hard on them.
